The mission of Houston Youth Guitar is to inspire excellence, foster creativity, and nurture a lifelong love of music through high-quality classical guitar education. We provide engaging ensembles and individual learning experiences that empower children to achieve their musical potential while celebrating their individuality. Rooted in community and accessibility, we strive to make classical guitar education a transformative and inclusive journey for every student, with regular opportunities for competition and public performance.
Houston Youth Guitar is a new approach to guitar instruction, with a focus on classical guitar playing and collective music making with other student guitarists. The curriculum is designed by Dr. Russell Sarre, a celebrated composer, guitarist, and teacher who writes and arranges music for guitar that allows students an accessible challenge while creating music that they actually love to practice and play.
Group Learning
Ensemble Only
Once a Week Guitar EnsembleWeekly rehearsals in a large classical guitar ensemble, culminating in public performances and with opportunities for participating in festivals and competitions.
Ensemble & Small Group
The Full Group Learning ExperienceThe best option in group music-making for the student guitarist, combining instruction in small groups with opportunities to perform in a large ensemble.
Small Group Only
Once a Week Small Group InstructionWeekly small group instruction in classical guitar. Students will gain the experience of learning with other student guitarists while still getting personalized attention.
